National SEO Growth for a Healthcare Organisation

Service Focus: National SEO

Challenge

Grapelight was approached by a UK healthcare organisation that offered speciality services to customers nationwide, but was struggling to achieve organic visibility when it came to high-intent treatments, and condition-related searches. The organisation had strong clinical expertise and excellent patient outcomes, yet the search rankings were all dominated by large healthcare groups, along with directories. By the time they contacted the Grapelight team, their organic traffic had plateaued and their patient enquiries were inconsistent, across all services. Their paid advertising, once used to support demand, was increasing in price, while difficult to scale. Their goals were to improve national visibility, attracting patients that are actively seeking treatment, and generative consistent enquiries, while adhering to strict healthcare compliance and confidentiality requirements.

Solution

We created a comprehensive national SEO strategy, after conducting a thorough audit on their competitors, content, and technical SEO. We paid close attention to accuracy, clarity, and compliance, ensuring every piece of content published met healthcare standards, avoiding the risk of misleading claims.

Our keyword research was focused on high-intent treatments, service-based searches, and conditions. This included comparison queries and symptom-led queries that are used by patients researching healthcare options. We got to work restructuring their service pages, helping to improve clarity and accessibility, along with aligning the content to patients search intent. Our content creators ensured they maintained medically accurate language throughout the content.

We also introduced supporting content that addressed some of the most common questions asked by their patients, along with eligibility considerations, and treatment pathways. This was done to build topical authority and improve trust. Our team also focused on their internal linking, improving it to help users navigate seamlessly between related conditions and services, which improved user experience, and search engine crawlability.

The technical improvements we addressed included mobile usability, indexation control, page speed, and the implementation of schema markup. All the content on the clients website was refined to improve eligibility for AI-driven search experiences and rich results, while ensuring every step complied with the healthcare regulations.

With everything in place, we constantly tracked the healthcare organisations online progress and performance, focusing on engagement, visibility, and enquiry attribution. All reporting maintained confidentiality and regulatory compliance, while providing our clients with progress and performance reports, while enabling our team to adjust their national SEO strategy in real-time, to ensure that they maintained visible in the long run.

Results

The healthcare industry is highly competitive and our client started noticing improvements within nine months, as their organic visibility and patient enquiries started to increase. There was significant improvements in their online visibility for high-intent treatment related searches, with just shy of 65% of their keywords securing a first page ranking. Many of their keywords were ranking in the top 10 positions in search results.

This resulted in a boost of organic traffic, which were driven by improved performance in their services and conditions pages. With this there was an improvement in engagement rates, with time spent on page increasing by more than 30%, while their bounce rate was reduced by 24%. This showed relevance and clarity, with more website visitors exploring additional pages.

The client has also experienced a 58% increase in patient enquiries that have come from organic search, with a high volume of these enquiries meeting eligibility criteria. Their appointment bookings that also related to organic traffic increased by just over 45%, which stabilised their patient pipelines.

Every client we work with wants to reduce their dependency on paid advertising, and we were able to achieve this for this healthcare organisation. As their organic visibility improved, they didn't need to rely on paid advertising as much, while experiencing a 21% reduction in cost per enquiry, without compromising patient volumes. This comprehensive national SEO strategy has provided this client with what they need to maintain sustainable growth, while aligning with compliance and confidentiality standards.
